Rights & Terms
These terms explain your rights and responsibilities when using CogCards. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.
1. Account and Access
- You are responsible for keeping your login details secure.
- You must provide accurate information when creating and maintaining your account.
- We may suspend access for misuse, abuse, or activity that harms other users or the service.
2. Data We Collect
Based on how CogCards currently works, the app collects and processes the following:
- Account data: username, first name, last name, email, hashed password, profile image.
- Learning content you create: decks, cards, categories, and deck metadata.
- Gameplay performance: game scores, cards seen/correct, session time, and deck context.
- Activity logs: recent game visits and site activity (endpoint, path, status code, timestamp, and user ID when logged in).
- Contact/support submissions: name, email, subject, message, and timestamp.
- Security checks: reCAPTCHA response validation with Google during login and signup.
- Session data required to keep you logged in and remember selected deck/game context.
3. Why We Use Data
- To provide login, account management, and profile features.
- To load your decks/cards and power flashcards and minigames.
- To generate leaderboards, social feed features, and study streaks.
- To monitor service health, moderation/admin tools, and prevent abuse.
- To respond to support messages and improve product quality.
4. Public and Social Features
- Decks submitted to the public library may be reviewed by admins before approval.
- Your gameplay activity and score data may appear in social and leaderboard views.
- You should not include sensitive personal data inside deck content.
5. Your Rights
- Access and update your profile data from Profile Settings.
- Delete your account from Profile Settings, which removes account access and associated profile data controlled by the app.
- Request support through the contact form for data questions or concerns.
6. Security and Storage
- Passwords are stored as hashes, not plain text.
- Data is stored in backend services used by CogCards (including Firebase/Firestore integration in the app).
- No service can guarantee absolute security; we apply reasonable safeguards and operational controls.
7. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Significant changes may require renewed acceptance for continued account use.
